How do I go about loading rh9 on my XP drive. Let me tell you what I have. I have on my XP machine, two separate hard drives. One is the 160gb and the other is the 120gb. The160gb has the OS loaded on it with two partitions one for the main OS and the other with space. On the 120gb, I have it as an extra partition for just extra space. How do I install rh9 on the 120gb without using all of the space? As in how do I go about the boot loader etc??? I guess I can delete the 120gb partition and then reboot with the rh9 cd to install. But how do I go about the size of the partitioning of the 120gb?? I would like to use 14gb for rh9 and the rest for windows as extra space. How do I go about the linux swap, /boot, /, ??? Im also going to try to reload dhcp on the linux pc after I post this and come check back in a sec.

I went to network config and tried to activate the service and it wouldnt activate it would state:
Determining IP info for eth0.... IPtables: No chain/target/match by that name failed.
IPtables: bad rule (Does a matching rule existin the chain?)
I even went in and manually typed in the ip address, subnet, gateway and I thought it was gonna work because it activated then, but when I went to my browser and tried it, it wouldnt work, says the hostname cannot be found. I can even ping myself and the loopback address. What am I missing here?? Doesnt help that its almost 4am.

Hi,
Actually you dont have to turn off iptables permenantly, but wht you can do for trouble shooting purpose is that, just turn off iptables, check whether your computer is able to get an ipaddress or not from a dhcp server. If yes, then we can easily Nail down the problem.
To turn off iptables, execute the command:
service iptables stop
So, just try that and let me know !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

Ok, Wht I have understood frm your problem, is that, your computer i.e, the Linux box is not able to communicate with the dhcp server. So, try to assign an ip address manually, with proper subnet information, gateway and dont forget to give primary name server, becoz that is the one which is going to do DNS resolution.
Becoz, u said
>I even went in and manually typed in the ip address, subnet, >gateway and I thought it was gonna work because it activated >then, but when I went to my browser and tried it, it wouldnt work,
so, here the missing thing is dns information, so try to give primary nameserver and please let me know.

Ok, Im gonna try it. Now I have ANOTHER problem. I installed rh9 on my XP pc which has two harddrives (Sony Vaio). One is the the 160gb which has XP on it. The second is a 120gb which I added as extra space. I decided to install rh9 on it so I did. I created partitions on it that only used up 14gb. Now.........I loaded grub boot loader in the XP harddrive which is hda1. Well it loaded up fine, then in text mode it had a weird name [root@xxxxxxx root] or someting like that, where the x's are not really x's but some kind of serial address or something....I hope I make sense??? Well then I tried startx and it wouldnt let me. SO I got frustrated and rebooted and picked XP to load up, then I formatted that partition and made it extra space again. NOW here is the problem. When I went to reboot it, it loaded up grub with the command line of grub> And I couldnt do anything, so I reloaded rh9 again and now I can access XP again. The problem is, is there a way to get rid of the grub boot loader out of hda1 and into hdb1??? or Is this the way its supposed to be?? And now rh9 works in Xwindows mode but it still says [root@xxxxxxx root] or something like that. *sigh* I appreciate the help

Ok.........now everything is working on my Xp pc with rh9 on it also. When it boots up and I have my cable modem off it read the following
[root@localhost root]:
but when I turn on my modem and start browsing the net and then open up a terminal again it reads the following:
[root@XXXXXXX root]:
but the X's are some kind of serial number or something?? How do I change that when I get online. Im using comcast cable.
