Help! my desktop html shortcuts wanna be opened with Thunderbird !!!

Hello,

the reason i'm asking your help is a file association problem:

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 - Gnome 22.24.1 - Kernel 2.6.27-11 generic

every time I drag and drop a web link from a html page using Firefox into the desktop, creating a desktop icon named < shortcut to "xyz" html file > ( but right-mouse-clicking on it do not appear the tabbed menu "open with" as every others desktop icons).

But without any known reason... double clicking on it the program launched is Thunderbird instead of Firefox, and obviously thunderbird has no way to viewing them!

How should I change this wrong file association if from the "proprieties window" of that kind of desktop shourtcut file icons menu, does not appear the "open with" tabbed menu item?

Thanks in advance to helpers

Maiden

Right click on the file & Select properties and open the tab named Open with. Now select thunderbird OR Add it there.

how could you tell me that....I've said TWO TIMES in my post that every shortcut created dragging and dropping html link into the desktop, do not have the "open with" tabbed menu item, right clicking on properties menu.

Infact the main problem in solving this issue is this, how could I change this wrong file association without the possibility of reaching that "open with" option?

Open the "System Settings" and look for the "File Associations" entry in the "Advanced" tab. (I use Kubuntu, so those are KDE instructions, but GNOME should have a similar "File Association" setting window.)

[SOLVED] file association error

I've found the correct way to change a wrong file association with Ubuntu 8.10

as the root user you have to open the file:

Code:
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
then will be very easy to understand what to do: next to every file extension listed, there are the associated applications.

Now you simply have to modify the existing software name with the other you want to be the default one associated with the file extension you're interested in.
