Unfortunately tripod does not support server side scripting...
phpbb2 utilizes PHP.

The following is from tripod help page.

Can I use Active Server Pages or server-side includes?
Currently, Tripod does not support Active Server Pages (.asp and .asf), server-side includes (SSI), or server-side scripts that are not written in Perl. This includes (but is not limited to) JSP, PHP, ColdFusion, and XSSI
Hope this helps.

IIRC you'll need a hosting account which has both PHP support and at least one MySQL database. I don't know of any hosting companies that will provide this service for free but a google search pulls up which has a directory full of them. You may find some of them already have phpbb2 or another similar board already installed.

If you're willing to pay I've been very happy with
