Help me get my audio CD working

I am as green as can be with LINUX but it definitly has my attention. I want to use it but damn is it frustrating. I am running SUSE 10.1 I have a Soundblaster Live 24 bit souncard that is finally working but when I try to run my audio cd's from the library on Banshee (yes I have tried other programs) it keeps telling me a decoder needs to be installed. Also I try to update my ATI 9500 Pro video card and it wont let me do it the way ATI says to. AGAIN remember I am totally new to LINUX can you please help me? I want this to work because Bil Gatews has enough money.

How does ATI say to do this? In what way does SUSE refuse to let you do this? Post the error messages and the circumstances.

SB Live + Suse 10.1 = No Sound

I would be *most* interested in how you got the sound card to work at all. I have read most all the other posts on this subject, tried what the authors suggested and have achieved nothing.

The same advise applies here too... what has been tried and what has been the effect. Be specific.

well to answer MrMartha i had a big problem like this and it all got fixed (in gentoo) whey i typed as the root user emerge alsa-tools alsa-drivers then i typed alsasetup or alsa-setup i do not remember because i switched to ubuntu about 2 months ago but that is how i got that to work. and to answer the original question you are using suse right well try and see if you are using xmms or arts if you are using xmms i have not been able to get it to play an audio cd but i did use the arts engine and it worked like magic. if you don't have arts open yum and find it. also try amarok or rhythmbox music player or alsa-player or kscd (always worked for me) i prefer use amarok and just get all audio off of the cd's with sound juicer cd extractor. i spent all summer getting gentoo configured to my likeing then i switched to ubuntu so if those sugestions don't work ask me another question
