help me get gaim working on my school proxy
 

I'm having the worst time getting gaim working on my school network. The school proxy is Http, I believe, thats what works on my browser, and you can only connect through a specific port (8080). I only have gentoo installed, no duel boot, but I have set up other people's aim programs on windows and it works. Gaim doesn't work even on windows, it always gives me a 502 proxy error. I attempted to use the offical aim linux program but that doesn't work either. I got aim to run under wine and it can connect but its a bit sketchy due to it being a windows program. I'd much rather run gaim natively, can anyone help me with this at all?

Are you saying running it under wine it works on your school's network? This is more of a question to ask your school's IT department or admins, they might have certain restrictions and ports to use on their network. Us knowing nothing about it is not going to help you much but a lot of guessing.

Well its aim that works under wine, not gaim. Gaim under windows doesn't work either. I tried asking the IT department but they aren't being too forthcoming thus far.
