HELP ME!!!! Blender all messed up in jaunty

Hello.
I really need help on this since Im a Linux nOOb.

I'm a 3D artist and used to use blenber before I switched to Jaunty.
When I use Blender in Jaunty the main window is all messed up. A little bit of the window looks normal but the bottom looks like it can't "refresh" the window.

Can anyone help?!?!? PLEASE!!

How do you start Blender? With a desktop icon?

Try starting it in a terminal and post any of the error messages or messages it might pop up there.

Also, have you installed the drivers for your display card on your new Jaunty install?

Which blender version are you using? 2.48a? Or an older one?

Have you tried posting this in Blender forums?

Are you able to spot anything in your system logs after you attempted to start / use Blender?

Have you tried running Blender as a different user? Risky, but also try starting Blender as root, and see if the problem persists?

Do any other OpenGL or 3D applications work on your new Jaunty install? I. e. does xscreensaver (for example) 3D screensavers run / work right?

Note that this is not necessarily a Linux error, it might be something to do with Blender itself.

I tried start it in the terminal. No error messages but still it did not work.

My display card is Intel(I think) and I think its installed.

I install blender from the Ubuntu Repositories so its 2.48a.

Then again it worked perfectly on Ubuntu 8.10.

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 but not used Blender yet. How would I test to see whether I have the same problem?

Just install it like I did and start it up. If it looks all bad and crashed then you have the same problem as me.

Ok, so same Ubuntu and same blender, but it works?

This sounds like some kind of GFX card specific OpenGL issue? Original poster, is your Intel display card on-board?

If it is on-board, I'd go and buy myself a low-spec Nvidia based display card, and use that instead of the on-board display chip / card. Then I'd install the lastest Nvidia Linux drivers. Blender is pretty much proven to work well with Nvidia display cards and the Nvidia Linux drivers, most likely it just doesn't like your Intel display hardware...

But why did it work perfect with Ubuntu 8.10 and now it doesn't??

Probably because the Intel graphics driver changed between the two Ubuntu versions, or maybe just the implementation of OpenGL in the driver is different in the newer Ubuntu...
