Help Me.....

I am using PClinuxOS 91 and i and trying to upgrade my kde 3.4.1 to kde 3.5.2 w/o upgrading xorg from 6.8.2 to xorg 6.9.0. If it upgrades it trashes my gui as I have an Intel 810 onboard video chipset.

Is there a way to put this package xorg 6.8.2 on hold to keep it at its currentversion....

I'm assuming that kde 3.5.2 is dependent on xorg 6.9. Are you using your package manager?---and it is telling you to install xorg 6.9?

How is the GUI being trashed?
Do you mean to say that the problem is **because** you have Intel 810 video? Why--is it a know issue?
Any clues on the xorg site?

In the future, you may wish to go into synaptic's preferences and unmark the box that says to include recommended packages as dependencies. Perhaps the upgrade of kde only recommended the upgrade of Xorg, but was included as a dependency due to the preference choice. Also, you can go into preferences and ask that synaptic not automatically delete old packages after new ones are installed, but rather save them to a cache. Another option within synaptic is to force a version of a particular package. If you save it to a cache, I would guess it will appear as an option for the force in the drop-down selection.
