Question HELP-Logging into Linux

I was logged into Mandrake 10.0 I went and selected log off and it took me to what it looks like when it boots. It them asks me to login to local host and I do and that and after that point I don't know what to do to get back into the Linux OS. I can use some help here. Thanks

I'd google for that exact problem. As root, what happens if you run kdm or gdm or xdm? Also try running
/sbin/init 1 followed by /sbin/init 5
