i recently installed ubuntu on my computer and when i try to install gkrellm it has an error when i type 'make'.
I have untarred it successfully(i think) and when i call make it complains that pakage gtk+-2.0 was not found in source path pkg-config.

you probably don't have gtk installed then. i'm not sure what all comes on ubuntu, but you should be able to find gtk2 by googling for it, and installing it...plus, i think ubuntu uses apt-get...you might be able to get it using that as well...

i tried installing gtk again, i am prety sure it is already installed, and i got an error when i call './config --prefix=/opt/gtk' that also complains about pkg-config. But this time it says the pkg-config script could not been found make sure it is in your path or or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable to the full path to pkg-config
how do i set this variable??

I had the EXACT same problem trying to compile Gkrellm on Mandriva2006.0.
Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't Ubuntu use the Debian package manager? My suggestion is to google for a Gkrellm *.deb package.
I googled for a Gkrellm *.rpm package, and I found an RPM repository. Try searching for a DEB repository.

Isn't that really a triple reply? Just kidding, maybe "make" isn't installed. You may need gtk, but I think you really need gcc. I would check for that as well. I would think the file you downloaded would list dependencies. If not maybe the site you got it from.
