Help: Formatted Linux, Stuck in grub.

Sorry if it's the wrong forum, since it's a problem about a software i though maybe it would go here.

Hello Everyone,

I am kinda new with linux and those thing.

I installed linux a while back so i could program with it, now since i was trying to format windows, and grub was blocking me, i decided to format linux first, then format windows, the problem right now is that i used partition magic to try and format linux ( and i guess it was a bad idear ) cuz now each time i reboot i guess stuck into grub and it says something like :

Minimal bash-like line editing is being supported....
the other computer is kinda far away...

More specification:

I am running:
Windows XP proffessional sp1. On the C: ( first partition i ever made ) so in linux it's the one with the lowest number i think it's hda0 or something like that.

Then theres my d: with all the files... ( all the spare )

Then there was the linux swap thing.
And finally the partition with Fedora Core 3( with everything 8 gb)

anyone can help me ?

After some research on the grub website, i think i got the right thing

i am kinda afraid to try that seeing how i messed up already ,can anyone give me the answer ? :P

thanks a lot

Since it's 3am now i decided to go with it...

and realized i missed something...

so i retryed

chainloader (hd0,0)+1
and it booted into windows.... good!!!!

now i only need to figure out how to uninstall that grub thingy
cuz everytime i reboot i get stuck in a minimal bash-like command line.

Anyone know how to erase it???

so i can finally format windows!!! thanks a lot.

A fdisk /mbr or fixmbr command from Windows will get rid of GRUB. Remember, in your case GRUB is the system bootloader so it resides on the master boot record (MBR), not on any partition, which is why you didn't get rid of it when you nuked Linux. You did nuke its config file on the /boot partition though, which is why it just threw you down to its shell.

yes a while back i had this problem. BTMiller is right. Boot with your xp disk and go to the prompt. (recovery console) and then run fixmbr to have it reinstall the windows loader it used before. I don't know if that works from command prompt within windows, so I figured I would say how I was guided to do it.
