help for libsndfile use in C programs to read/write .WAV files

Dear sirs/Madam
Hello and Hi! everyone. I would like to get detailed information on how to use libsnd file in one's programs. My interest is in analysis of North Indian classical music for the archival purpose. I have some background in Fortran77 programming. I am learning C at present because no one in DSP community is using Fortran77 anymore. My problem is how large digitised files are
written/read in C. Usually these files have formats like .WAV, .au and so on. libsnd file is a library that enables one to read/write these files without bothering their headers. Is there a very basic tutorial/demo programs that illustrate how to use libsnd file library in C programs? I have downloaded libsndfile package.

Audacity uses libsndfile.
the beauty of open source is you are encouraged to get the source to other music applications and go to school on the code of others.
