HELP!!! Cannot send mails in SLACKWARE 9.1
I need help urgently regarding this topic.
I connect to the net using dialup connection through kppp. The sendmail daemon is started every time at boot. But i cannot send mails to my friends like someone@yahoo.com by using "mail someone@yahoo.com" at the command prompt. The mail gets sent if and only if the sendmail daemon is restarted after connecting to the net. Please help as soon as possible. Specs: Intel P4 @ 1.7GHz Slackware 9.1 External serial modem |
Have you got your ISP's dns server addresses in /etc/resolv.conf? I know that kppp can automatically find the dns server address so when using it there is no need for putting the dns address's in resolv.conf. Perhaps because the sendmail daemon is running before your connected it does not have a dns address to go thru.

So what entries must be in the /etc/resolv.conf ?
is this sufficient? search one05.net nameserver 61.1.128.65 nameserver 61.1.128.5 |
dopefish, that did it!!! thanks
i added the nameserver lines as mentioned in the above post and sendmail can send mails when i am connected to the net. But now if i send a mail when offline, it will be lost!! Is there any way by which mails that i write offline are sent as soon as i am connected to the net ? |
NP i dont actually use sendmail so i couldnt really answer that question check the man pages or something
