it may complain about some things.... if you want you could throw the --nodeps flag to rpm:

rpm -Uvh --nodeps xmms-alarm-xxxxxx.rpm

to install it (this is not recommended for installing rpm's in general)

this package is for 10.0 but should work for you.

Why didn't I think of that?!

It installed and my eyes lit So simple. So freaking simple. All these problems with glib..and gtk..and that worked. I'm not a fan of RPMs for various reasons, but this time it worked out nice.
