Azureus has very helpful installation and user guides on their website. You should probably try the official instructions first.

Azureus Installation How-to for Linux

Azureus User Guide

As far as downloading and searching goes, remember that Bittorrent is NOT a "filesharing" network like Kazaa. Bittorrent is a tool to help download large files. Although it can be used to download copyright-infringing material, it's not really intended for that; currently, there is no way for your IP address to remain anonymous while downloading.

Read more about Bittorrent from the Official FAQ, and "Brian's FAQ".

Find torrent files at legaltorrents.com, mybittorrent.com, and torrentreactor.net

Well someone did write a script to automatically download the peerguardian list and update your iptables to drop requests originating from that list, but I did not take note of it since all I download is Linux packages and TV shows. Some google searches should point you in the right direction.
