Help!!!!! : alsamixer Problem ..

HI,

I recently upgraded my Linux Kernel 2.4 to 2.6 [Redhat 9 [Shrike]].

I have my Sound Setup Working perfectly..

but when i try to use alsamixer .. i get the following error..

[root@www root]# alsamixer
alsamixer: relocation error: alsamixer: symbol sys_siglist, version GLIBC_2.3.3 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

[ I read somewhere that it has to do something with Symbolic links getting messed up.. ???? ]

Any Help regarding this is "GREATLY APPRECIATED"

Bye!!

I have same problem. Installed RH 9 from CD:s and then made custom 2.6.7 kernel.

I have tried to make and install alsa-utils-1.0.5 and also tried to install
alsa-utils-1.0.5-0_9.rhfc2.at.i386.rpm

Still
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory

After running ./configure config.log file shows only these errors

configure:2407: gcc -c -g -O2 conftest.c >&5
conftest.c:2: parse error before "me"
configure:2410: $? = 1
configure: failed program was:
| #ifndef __cplusplus
| choke me
| #endif

And later

configure:3052: checking how to run the C preprocessor
configure:3087: gcc -E conftest.c
configure:3093: $? = 0
configure:3124: gcc -E conftest.c
conftest.c:12:28: ac_nonexistent.h: No such file or directory
configure:3130: $? = 1
configure: failed program was:
| /* confdefs.h. */
|

Are these errors source to problem ?

HI,

Inspite of me having a problem with alsamixer ...

i am able to use the alsa pluging in xmms.. and the sound is good too...

i did the same stuff given in the following document... and it worked...

http://www.freax.be/wiki/index.php/F...nel%202.6-test

along with the RPMS mentioned in the above document..

please install

alsa-xmms-0.9.9b-fr1.i386.rpm [alsa xmms plugin]..

use kmixer for turning up the sound ...

i read somewhere that [we have to reconfigure kmixer with the "--with-alsa" option ]

BUT I HAVENT DONE THE ABOVE AND IT SEEMS TO WORK PERFECTLY.....

BEST OF LUCK...........

Get rid off those errors by extracting alsa-driver-1.0.5a.tar.bz2 package and run snddevices script. It makes /dev/dsp and other required devices and sets all kinds of variables.

But I only managed to start alsamixer once and it just hang. amixer seems to be okey.

But xmms plugin alsa-xmms-0.9.9b-fr1.i386.rpm now complains about broken pipe and still doesn't work.

Is there something else I am missing? I just run snddevices script without doing anything else.

Found out more weird stuff. Alsamixer works when started using init level 3 ( means no X-window started ). Tried twice. Under X with gnome desktop manager it just displays upper part of the screen and hangs. Does alsamixer need never than 4.3.0 Xfree86 to work properly?

Alsamixer also showed that its version is 1.04. but I installed it from alsa-utils-1.0.5-0_9.rhfc2.at.i386.rpm.

Anyway before starting X I started alsamixer and made some line out settings and those settings also worked under X.

Now I have to fix alsamixer so that I can use it under X and there is still left that broken pipe problem with XMMS plugin.
