Have you tried looking for earlyrr.txt to see if it actually exists?
$ locate -u (as root - this updates the locate database, should be done about once a week)
$ locate earlyrr.txt
With WINE, I usually tackle each error as it comes, the messages arn't all too cryptic and there are many people out there with success stories and detailed HOWTOs
google gor it under gooogle.com/linux

I just moved the thread to Linux - Software, as it fits better here (Member Intro is to say 'Hello'). Choosing the right forum increases the number of replies you get.

do you by chance have a windows partition on your drive? if so install it in windows, and then copy the whole directory over to your linux fake windows drive, and it should run fine....i personally haven't seen much luck with running this game without the original install on a windows partition...
and regarding winex, if you do a search in this fourm, you'll find numerous threads that have links in them to download winex3
