Angry Help a newb install Kismet

I'm trying to install Kismet and have hit a wall.
So far i have done the following in the kismet folder:

./configure;
make dep;
make;
make install;

the make install stops for this reason:

cannot change ownership of '/usr/local/man/man1/kismet.1' opperation not permited

anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Are you installing it as a normal user or root user ???

Try installing it as root.

$ --->[ in the terminal indicates normal user]
# --->[ in the terminal indicates root user]

Use $su - [to switch to root user mode from normal user mode]..

If all else fails try this -->chmod a+rw -R /usr/local/man/man1/
to set the permissions for all users to have access to the above folder and do the #make install

Happy Sniffing

I tried the above, but no luck.

I forgot to list that I'm using slackware 10.0 with the 2.6.9 kernel.
I am trying to do the install as root.
I was wondering if I had to install it from a certain location, right now I'm doing it from /root.

Any help is much appreciated

Can you post the last lines[errors] of the #make install.

try doing -->
#su -
#configure --prefix=/usr
#make
#make install
