I may sound stupid, but some of the things you should check for
1) Volume level of the headphone (generally have a volume control on a headphone)
2) Check if there are additional sound levels for the system by opening the volume control
3) Check whether the headphone works with other stuff (like if u have an mp3 player , discman etc...)
4) Check whether the plug is properly inserted into the port(the hole, usually green) of the computer
5) I dont know, how the O. S wud identify...but I feel motherboards (if u have an intel one) of intel do detect activity at those three ports!
1. i put the volume at max , still no sound , i played a song in xmms with the correct out put plugin , the song was being played but with no real sound output
2. i checked out sndconfig in fedora core at max volume , still there is no sound
3. , the headphones work absolutely fine on my windows xp
4. since i never touched the pins , they are obviously in the correct place
5. its not about motherboards amigos but my os - fedora core 3 - being able to detect the soundcard
which it does , but still no sound output
i see the module - snd_cs4281 - when i do /sbin/lsmod in the list
the question is why there is no sound even though fc3 detects the sound card ??
do headphones make a difference ?? what do i do ?
