hdb lost interrupt

please, can someone help me?..i have two hdd's (2k3 server on hda and redhat 9 on hdb) and everything was fine until last few days..now, when i boot in RH, hdd starts making strange sickening noises after 15-20mins working and system hangs, forcing me to reboot..when i load in 2k3 server, same thing happens (with hdd noises) unless it hangs only for a few time, then everything is going normal again..ive tried to reboot in text mode, but only message i got is - hdb lost interrupt..please i am very new to linux so maybe i did something wrong?..with this trouble i can do nothing in linux, because what u can do for 15mins?..please help me..

hmm, sounds to me like you have a hardware problem.

nah its not neccessarily a hardware problem. I too am having the same problem, only my system doesnt hang, when I shutdown it says lost interrupt.

try passing ide=poll to the kernel next time.

Im pretty sure its ide=poll.

How old are the drives you are using.
I am using an OLD WDC 320 mb disk, and a 40GB WDC disk.

well i looked in syslog and there was lines of hdb failed and DMA disabled, and continuous hdb: lost interrupt..my hdd's is both Seagate Barracuda, 7200, 60GB - less than year old, and 120GB - bought it around two weeks ago..looks like im having troubles with 60GB one, because ive reinstalled RH on hda (120GB) and it works smooth so far, as dual boot..ive tried to disable DMA in BIOS but it doesnt help

Because it was working at one time, and because of the noise, I believe the drive is going bad. You might try reseating the cables.

If you got this hanging and interupt problem from the start, you could try the noaspci boot option.

well looks it was lack of power..after i increased it up to 350W, is going fine so far..lol i bought 120GB Barracuda and u know how much it eats, and there was two additional fans, never enough when u have overclocked Athlon..im testing HDD and look if the problem resolved..
