Having some display issues with new install.
Hey guys, just recently I upgraded from SuSE 11.0 to Ubuntu 8.10 and am not having some issues with my display. I can't seem to get Dual Monitors to work. I was told to download and install the ATI Catalyst program for the correct drivers for my card (Radeon X9600). I downloaded and installed with the automatic installation and ran /usr/X11R6/bin/aticonfig --inital, and everything was great and it told me to restart. I rebooted and I got an error that said Ubuntu would be run in low graphics mode. Ok, but it never opened Ubuntu. So I reboot and go back to my generic setup (back to one monitor), and I try to open the Catalyst Program, and it tells me that the drivers are either incorrect or not configured. So I try to do a Manual Custom build of my driver. I do a listpkg to see if Ubuntu 8.10 is even supported and it is, so I try to use the buildpkg, and here is what I get:
Generating package: Ubuntu/8.10
./packages/Ubuntu/ati-packager.sh: 364: sh -c '/usr/sbin/synaptic --set-selections --non-interactive --hide-main-window < /tmp/filee2rPpX': not found
Unable to install dpkg-dev. Please manually install and try again.
./packages/Ubuntu/ati-packager.sh: 364: dpkg-architecture: not found
Error: unsupported architecture:
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.Mo8765
I'm lost and have no idea where or what I should do now. Any help would be nice. I'm kind of a fresh user to Ubuntu, as I've been running SuSE for a while and am kind of use to that one, but I would like to understand Ubuntu more (mainly because I like Ubuntu more). So if anyone has any suggestions please let me know! Thanks in advance guys!
