Having problems with MPlayer

I finally got it and all of the codecs downloaded but I am still having a problem. Everytime I try to open it it just acts like it is loading in my bar (see pic at the bottom) and then it disappears. Does anybody know what is going on?

Thanks,
Sporadic

How are you attempting to run it? Are you just typing mplayer? Or made a link to mplayer? If your not using the graphical version, you have to specify the file you want to play:

mplayer <somefile.mpg>

And use gmplayer if you want the graphical client.

Oh it doesn't have a graphical interface? I was just trying to open it via the shortcut on my toolbar (I did try mplayer though in the run command and just clicking on the movie file). I will try that command you listed and try to download gmplayer

Well I tried the mplayer <somefile.mpg> thing (of course with the correct file name) and it didn't work. Anyone have any idea what is going on? Also where I can get a copy of gmplayer for SuSe 9.1

Best Way With Mplayer is to download and compile in my opinion,

check the ./configure --help

but i think you need something along the lines of
./configure --with-gui

then your normal make && make install should do it, but as always check the documentation.

Hope that helps

if you run ./configure --help, you get a list of options that you can use to enable or disble stuff. I think it's something like

./configure --enable-gui

yeah that looks more like it.

for a guide on how to compile packages look around this forum but basically:

Download the source for a program.
Unpack it.
cd into the unpacked source.
then:
./configure <options>
make
make install

hope this helps
