I just installed Red Hat Linux 9.0, and i can't install Limewire. Do I need to install some type of program reader?

Are you trying to compile it from source, or are you trying to install a binary RPM package?

"cd" to the directory it's downloaded in, then "./limewirelinux.bin". This should go through a simple install process.

i had the same problem, when i used debian i could just click on it and it would open. then i switched to mandrake and i had to do the following:
move Limewire.bin to your home directory, right click on it, then go to permissions, make sure "is exectuable" or the exe boxes are checked all the way down. THEN: open a console, and type:
sh LimeWireLinux.bin (or what ever the filename is i cant remember), that should open the automatic installer.

ok,heres what you gotta do:
(do this in a terminal, not through your window manager)
cd into the directory where your limewirelinux.bin is
chmod 700 limewirelinux.bin
(this makes the file executable...in your terminal if you do
an ls command, it will show up in green...i use RH9.0 also)
execute the file by this command:
./limewirelinux.bin
chances are you will get a java error, you need to download
the jre to get this to work...if you get this far and get this error
let me know and i will tell you what to do next

grcunningham:

I did what you said, and (as you said) I got an error. this is the cpoy of the terminal:

[nathan@d66-183-100-29 nathan]$ cd ~
[nathan@d66-183-100-29 nathan]$ chmod 700 LimeWireLinux.bin
[nathan@d66-183-100-29 nathan]$ ./LimeWireLinux.bin
Preparing to install...
Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive...
Configuring the installer for this system's environment...
No Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH
environment variable. You must install a VM prior to
running this program.
[nathan@d66-183-100-29 nathan]$ (cursor)

What should I do now?

P.S. Thank you for your help so far.

I installed J2EE using the same method:

do the following:
move Limewire.bin to your home directory, right click on it, then go to permissions, make sure "is exectuable" or the exe boxes are checked all the way down. THEN: open a console, and type:
sh LimeWireLinux.bin (or what ever the filename is i cant remember), that should open the automatic installer.
'
But I still get the same error. What do I do?

I'm not completely certain, but I don't know if J2EE has the runtime environment or not in it... try installing the J2RE (Java 2 Runtime Environment), that might help.

I forgot about the "chmod +x", I haven't used too many of those bin files, just 3 or 4 for Linux games.
