Have you used blender for 2d work?

hi. Me and my friend want to start doing animations and putting them online but have had difficulty with some of the open source 2D programs. I've heard that blender can be used for 2d animation and was curious if anyone here has used it to do so and what kind of experience have they had with it. How has it compared with other 2d programs you have used? I know blender has a steep learning curve but if it can do 2d animation i'd like to use it because it is mature and has a large community of users. Thanks for any replies in advance.
