Have you ever used kwallet?

Hey folks! This is my first time i try to use kwallet and i need some advice of what kwallet is useful for.

A)I want an application that stores my web passwords ... and i think kwallet is designed for that.

B)I want to store my credit cards numbers, bank accounts and other very confidential data. So i have thought that i should try to create a separate wallet for this kind of information and to open and close it after i read my password or pin.
B.1) How kwallet stores that information? Plain text? Perhaps this means that if my laptop is stolen or someone else use it my security data will be stolen.
B.2) Do you recommend kwallet for keeping so much important data?
Thanking you in advance
Alex

when you first use gpg or similar, it prompts to set up a wallet. It's not afaik a "safe" for anything you use within your OS. For website passwords, you can use firefox>edit>preferences>security if you want. Look into the following: gpg or kgpg for single file encryption- this can be a tarball if encrypting multiple files- or truecrypt to set up a "safe" for files and folders.

AFAIK: I'm not in favour of acronyms in general but you see it regularly here. In my case I just started helping zero reply threads and "as far as I know" means that I might have missed something (that a senior member might be able to add)

With a strong password, it should be reasonably secure, obviously nothing is impregnable. The following are only my opinions and not in any way a criticism of the application or its developers.

some W$ boxes can be bruteforce cracked because eg one XP system is similar to another, and I fear the same might apply to a system using KDE/kwallet. If you can put your key info in a place that's individual to you that I think is more secure.

Also- if your login for, say, Easyjet, is hacked, that isn't as serious as bank account info. There are some things that should be memorized and not recorded.

ON a positive note, if your kit is stolen, the chance of the thief being or knowing a Unix wizard is remote. And hacking of individual linux systems is (reputedly) rare.
