Have problems installing gxine 0.5.4

While I can get gxine to install, I can't get it to run. It says I have to upgrade my GTK library. I went to their site and downloaded all the relavent files. I compiled glib no problem, but I could not get ATK to compile. The configure script gave this report:
*** 'pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0' returned 2.6.1, but GLIB (2.8.6)
*** was found! If pkg-config was correct, then it is best
*** to remove the old version of GLib.
What is pkg-config and how can I remove glib-2.0 on Slackware. Thanks.

Crap, I accidently posted two threads about the same thing here. I forgot about this one. Well, thanks for the help. I'll look into the package manage. I'm so retarded.
