Hello,
I updated to KDE 4.3 by accident, (my sources.list had etch but a mirror I use gives me sid as well-I don't know why). Today I wanted to add kompare and apt wants to upgrade all kde stuff again about10+hrs of downloads on my slow dial-up, plus it wants to remove openoffice which I don't want to loose. I don't want to have to go to sid in everything (I noticed openoffice 2 is in sid). Can anyone help me in going back to KDE 3.5? Even pakages like quanta and guarddog are affected and I updated them once before I figured out KDE 4.3 was not an etch package. Or can I look for an older package of kompare and install that? Yes, I'm still a newbie. Thanks.

Well if you have not cleaned your apt cache then you would change to the /var/cache/apt/archives directory then you can get a list of all the packages in there with the 3.5 in their names then use dpkg -i package1-3.5.deb package2-3.5.deb package3-3.5.deb ..... till you end up with one long command with all the 3.5 packages on it hit the enter key to install them all.
Thanks Happy Tux & Optimistic. I saw the 4:3.4.3-3 in kpackage and figured it was version 4.3.4.3-3 but looking in the archive as you suggested I see it is 3.4.3-3 (yes?) What does the leading 4 mean? I like Linux and I am thankful for the hard work that folks put into making it available and helping people learn it. I'll keep learning.
