Harddrive restore and information

I have been running a Windows Vista system before and my harddrives crashed and turned from NTFS mode to RAW mode.

The data on the drives are not that important so i want to learn and have fun whit this. So i am thinking of installing linux and se what programs that are available for harddrive information and recovery. I was planing on using debian or ubuntu, but the choise of os is not important i can use other versions to if there is a good program for this.

Make a cd from this site and analyze your hard drive.

You can use fdisk -l /dev/sdx to see the partitions

Replace sdx with sda if you have only one harddisk.
To see a list do:
ls /dev/sd*
ls /dev/hd*
