Harddrive backup to mini dv tapes
Hi all,
I just figured how to back up my WinXP (still need it for some things) to Mini DV tapes. I was shocked to learn that 1 little tape will hold at least 10gb of data.
I'm trying to figure how to do this on my linux box. I am using a Canon Optura20 camcorder with firewire. Also, I would need to know how to retrieve the data as well. Command line or gui is fine.
Well, how does the camera hookup? Does it need some proprietary protocol, or does it let you directly mount the tape as a block device? If you have a 2.6 kernel (as Ubuntu 6.10 does) you'll know because a new device node will appear in /dev when you plug it in. Does Ubuntu automount it?
