Harddisk recognition

I have just installed mandrake 8.0 on a seperate drive while having my other drive as windows XP (NT file system). I was wondering how to access my XP drive under linux as it hasn't got it as a listed drive....i mean its in /dev as hdb but how do i access it? Last time i installed this version of mandrake i was able to access it but it was fat 32, but now because of NTFS could this be the problem?

The fstab file should probably be changed from vfat to ntfs and if that's already there, you'll need to recompile the kernel so as to add ntfs support.

Also i beleive that Linux read support for NTFS is working goos, but if you try to write to a NTFS Linux might crash. In other words i beleive that i heard somewhere that linux write NTFS support is unfinished and/or buggy.
Correct me if am wrong please!
