hard drive platter

Two Seagate hard drives number ST9120317AS; of the two hard drives one is new, name it drive A. The other hard drive with stored information stopped working, name it B. May platter in drive A and B be removed. May platter in drive B, with stored information, be installed in drive A that information on drive B platter will be recovered on Linux Mint.

Maybe, and I assume you don't have a backup of the data. Unless you have the skills, knowledge and a clean room then I would not suggest you trying or you could lose the data in the process. There are professionals but tend to be expensive.

If you have to ask this question then you don't have the necessary skill / clean-room to do it.

If the data on the "B" drive is important to you then you should pay a specialist data recovery company to get it back.

Here's a link to a video about a hard drive platter swap. Do you think you are up to the task?

Sorry, just curious, how about a controller swap? Swap the PCB instead of opening the drive?

michaelk 12-06-2018 01:19 PM

Doh... Although it might depend on how the drive failed I.e hard drive crashed.

I agree that a swap of the motherboard would be MUCH easier first test. Almost impossible for a home user to change the platten.
