Hard disk imaging

Hi,
I want to create an image of an VFAT partition so that it can be replicated in other machines. Is there any particular format that will be useful? Or is there any place where I can start looking into??

Regards,
Bharath

I am not looking at softwares that do imaging. But techniques to do it. Something like 'dd'. I googled it to find that we can perform bit level copy of a disk using dd. Does it copy the FAT also when it creates the image of the drive?
Is there anything else I can look into?
