hard disk image

I have fedora installed on a machine .
I would like to write hard disk image of this machine on to a CD and then use that bootable CD to install on another machine . Is there any software for that ?

yes: Partition Image, Webclone, bbiso, ghost for Linux... and also a tool (or command) called mkisofs

I agree. I would use partition image. Its what I use- nice to have my whole
/sda1 partition in compressed .tar form
You set a max size per tar file if you want - useful if you want to put the image files
on CD..

partimage will create 2 tar with extension .000 for the first and .001 for the second...

http://mondorescue.org/ is another option. It will create a bootable restore disk of your backup.

The full restore option is not recommended for different hardware.

I personally have not used it much, but have heard good things about it.
