Handlers [specifically URL for Kaffeine]
I am: distinct newbie, relatively comfortable with WIN
OS: kubuntu Situation: tried to download/run QuickTime streaming video from website using Konqueror - clicked on link, OS called Kaffeine, queried OK? - I clicked OK & got error message: "No URI handler implemented for 'address of file' Problem (primary) - Can find nothing intelligible about URI handlers in the KDE help file, nor on line after extensive Googling. I'd like to watch the video. Problem (extended) - I know Linux is really cool, because people I respect assure me it is ["really powerful" is usual description] but I am unable to find any Help file or any on-line instruction for Linux that is written (like Windows help files) in plain English with no Linux jargon and no assumption that I understand what the verb "mount" means (except in riding and sex!) Everything I find seems to start at a plateau of knowledge well above my level (sea level or slightly below) and I'm unable to bootstrap myself. Case in point: I check for "Similar threads" here at LQ and get "partition handlers", "MIME handlers", "interrupt handlers", "multiple SIGALARM handlers", but no clue about what a handler is in first place!!! Should I get "Linux for Dummies" or what? Thanks for your attention! |
The quickest fix: Don't use Kaffeine to view Quicktime files. Instead, download the quicktime-x11utils package and play your movie with "lqtplay [movie_file]" or "lqtvrplay [movie_file]" from the command-line.
The longer fix: Look to see if you have a quicktime plugin for kaffeine, and if not, try to find one online and install it. It may also be part of a larger set of codecs for kaffeine, so you'll have to look carefully. Hope this helps :) |
