well you see wine was started in order to run some win32 apps then some people got the bright idea of hackin it up for better game support and whola! winex, but thers a catch you have to pay for it. binaries are source files that have been compiled into executable form in order to save you the trouble of compiling and disable you from looking at the code.

Compiler

I'm having a problem locating the compiler on the Lunix CD's. Can someone please tell me which disk it is one and what to do once I have found the file. Or, do I have to reinstall the OS in order to be able to install the compiler? I am running Mandrake 9.0 and it has 3 CD's, the first two was the install disk and I never did use the 3rd disk. I maybe on that disk, just don't know which file to look at. Can some one help a newbie out like me? PLEASE

In Mandrake must be some packages manager. In KDE menu must be a Kpackage or something.
Or try to run gnorpm from a console as a root.
Or run the mandrake control center and go to install programmes or something like that, i dont remember.
After u will open one of those programs ( I recomand mandrake control center) choose to install the gcc.
Also choose glibc , gtk and qt, those libraries are helpfull for most of compilation. The program will tell you what CD to use

Look up Package Manager or install Packages under Configuration in the menu. I don't remember. Next in the search box type gcc. You can also click on Development in the tree of packages. After you find gcc, don't forget to install your kernel source code. You need it to compile programs because most programs are dependent on version.h and other header files.

To compile in Mandrake:
./configure [options]

make

make install

You don't need to do make depend. Mandrake is automatic.
