Unhappy HALd Freeze my computer

I got a problem with HALd.
When I load a cdrom or a usb-stick the HAL deamon freeze my computer.
If I have a cdrom in the cdrom drive or a usb-stick connected when booting
the computer freeze _directly_ after starting HALd.

Can this be a hardware problem?
It occurs both in Gentoo and in a fresh install of Debian Etch.
I have motherboard
Asus - Socket 939 - (A8N32-SLI DELUXE med NForce4)

I've searched all over the Google but with no success..

Help ... please ...
