I'm running KDE 3.5.2 on Slackware-current.

Resolution is 1024 x 768 and dpi = 96 x 96.

Using freetype recompiled for BC support.
MS fonts installed, standard font is Tahoma 8 point.

All fonts are working perfectly.

My problem is that there appears to be a font size that is hard-coded somewhere in KDE that is used in a number of KDE applications to render fonts in situations where a smaller-than-standard size is required. To see what I am talking about, run krita and look at the font used for the tool-tabs. This can also be seen in digikam in the fonts used for the names and descriptions for the thumbnails.

What appears to be happening is that the font is set at 6 point of whatever font is specified in the KDE control center and this is too small to easily read - looks ugly too. 7 point would be much better, but I cannot find where this might be editable. I'm assuming this is set by KDE and not the individual applications as it appears to be consistant between apps where this occurs, although I could be wrong about this.

EDIT: The default action seems to be to make this font 2 points smaller than the sized chosen via control-center. I would like to change this to 1 point as I do not wish to have my standard fonts larger than Tahoma 8.

Any suggestions of where to look would be greatly appreciated. This is not a configurable option in the KDE control center.

i would look through ~/.kde and find the config files. I think you'll find in there what ur looking for. I haven't used kde in a long time, so i'm not sure what it's called.

I did look there first and did not find anything of interest regarding this particular parameter. Since this happens for multiple KDE programs, I felt this might be more of a generalized KDE font size specification rather than user or application specific. As I said, there is no way to change the size of this font independent of changing the "general" font size in KDE Control Center. If general is set at "Tahoma 8", then this font is "Tahoma 6" which is too small. I can increase the general font to 9 point which will change this small font to 7 point, but I don't want my general use fonts that large. (Ya, I'm picky )

I have checked most of the *rc files in the /opt/kde tree and have not seen anything there either. That does not mean it is not there though.

I thought I might try editing /etc/fonts/fonts.conf and including an alias section that would effectively set a minimum font size for the desktop, much like in browsers. Not sure if that will work though.
