GXINE issue!!!!!!!

What does this mean. I get this with XINE and GXINE both.

Code:

Loading of playlist file failed:
Failed to open file '/root/.gxine/playlist'

i assume it means you havent created a playlist or it isnt where gxine expects it to be, what are you trying to do exactly? play one file? a series of files? a playlist? please give us more information

krussell 01-07-2004 09:56 PM

it means that you are logged-in root and running xine, and xine is looking for a hidden directory (that starts with a dot) in you home directory, and a playlist in that directory. its not an error in the first place, and you SHOULDN'T be running applications as root.

watashiwaotaku7 01-07-2004 09:59 PM

it is an error, just because you shouldnt do it doesnt mean it shouldnt work, unless the gxine developers have made special effort so that you cant run it as root which i really think is wrong, its your box and your choice

I am simply trying to play a simple DVD is all.

krussell: I am fully aware that it is not best practice to run apps or anything as root unless you absolutely have to, but I get this same error as a normal user too.

This is so frustrating. I get a different error everytime I try and use XINE/GXINE. I will uninstall and re-install and a different error pops up each time.

I have also gotten an stating "ERROR READING DVD" after a few seconds of play.

I hate this friggin' app.

perhaps you should try mplayer i love it and it does EVERYTHING

I am currently looking at Ogle with the Goggles GUI Front-End for it. I like ogle, but thought I would try and use XINE since it was already there with the fresh install.

Oh well though. If ogle doesn't work I will try MPlayer.

isn't the damnest thing??????

I just re-installed SlacK9.1 and DropLine Gnome and Bammm. Xine works like a champ. I just watched 2 movies with it without a single problem.

for all you out there that have issues with Slack and XINE. Install Dropline and add yourself to every group that root belongs to other than root. Thats what I did.

GXine still doesn't work, but who cares, I live in the Fluxbox world.
