gvim sits there like a stump on a log

Wish I could say more. I type "gvim" in a terminal, and I get nothing. No gui, no error, no output - nada. This is a new machine (gentoo, x86_64, running kde4). My old machine(s) (gentoo, 32-bit, kde3.5) never had this issue. Truly stumped. I don't even know where this thing logs. Any ideas?

Do you have gvim installed, or just regular Vim? Does Vim work? I think for Debian I had to manually install that bit:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/gvim
Might be worth checking, just in case.

I'm assuming you're running this within a terminal window from an existing X session... otherwise you'd be seeing some kind of 'can't connect to display' errors.

Hello GaijinPunch,

it is like MBybee wrote, you'll need to install vim and gvim which also in Gentoo are different packages.
