guvcview crashing

I would appreciate some help.

I am trying to use guvcview to change the settings of my camera and it crashes when I use it. Sometimes it runs for a while until I move the graphic window and sometimes it just crashes (actually only the graphic window stops, the controls are fine. I can also shut it down normally)

Also the first panel of controls dont appear.

Can anybody tell me how to fix this? Do I need to reinstall it?

Thanks

P.S> the error log is (long though)

Try starting guvcview from a command line and using it until it crashes. It might throw relevant error messages to the terminal when it crashes.

Thank you for your reply.

That is what I did in the post above. I included the verbose option and the error messages are posted in the original post.

hi

what distro is this?

2) some comments on your output

"not found" and "unknown" are not always essential to fix
but "critical" types are:

snip is
Quote:
Error: empty control list

(guvcview:4420): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_scrolled_window_add_with_viewport: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (child)' failed

(and further on)
Video driver: x11
A window manager is available

in debian sid the dependencies are:
Depends: libasound2 (>= 1.0.16), libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.12.4), libavcodec54 (>= 6:9.1-1) | libavcodec-extra-54 (>= 6:9.8), libavutil52 (>= 6:9.1-1), libc6 (>= 2.17), libcairo-gobject2 (>= 1.10.0), libcairo2 (>= 1.2.4), libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (>= 2.22.0), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.35.9), libgtk-3-0 (>= 3.0.0), libpango-1.0-0 (>= 1.14.0), libpangocairo-1.0-0 (>= 1.14.0), libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.13-4), libportaudio2 (>= 19+svn20101113), libpulse0 (>= 0.99.1), libsdl1.2debian (>= 1.2.11), libudev1 (>= 183), libv4l-0 (>= 0.5.0)

ignore the version numbers and focus pls on libgtk version is 3

can you use your package manager and report if you are missing any of these packages pls

2) what desktop/WM/DE are you running pls?

3) other than gtk I would also look at your xorg setup and notice you are have
Screen resolution is (911 x 606)
Checking video mode 640x480@32bpp : OK

but maybe its not ok?

try dropping the bit rate ?

good luck

in a separate post sorry

have you double checked your audio devices and playing correctly
I notice you have pulseaudio etc

I bet you have not used the audio tab.....pulldown and change default from libportaudio to pulseaudio?

2) remove all fancy filters and try again as well pls

Sorry, I thought it was from a log file, not terminal output.

hi

yes ignore version numbers you are on stable me unstable

can you do the following searches for us when you get a chance
if not found you just get a blank terminal prompt
---if found it will give you a hit ok?

Code:
dpkg -l | grep libavcodec-extra
dpkg -l | grep libpango
2) gtk ---in gui for guvcview change your recording bitrate to see if you still get an error

3) look at hidden files in your home folder they start with a dot (.)

post the output of .xsession-errors pls

good luck
