For the past one or three weeks I've had a general failure to print pdf files and image files with gimp (via gutenprint). I can still print text files, html, openoffice docs etc. just fine.

What happens: I click print, it goes to the print queue, goes out of the print que, the printer warms up - as if it's goiung to print - it does have a flash or two of the 'receiving data' LED, but then nothing happens.

As I've not been able to find any mention of this problem on the web I'm guessing that it's a corrupted file somewhere (any thoughts?). However the last thing I want to do is reinstall *everything*. I'm looking for hints as to what I might uninstall/reinstall that might fix this problem - or any other mind-blowing ideas that I've completely overlooked.

Also, I'm fairly sure it's not my printer - it's a heavy duty kyocera laser, model: fs 1800+ and it gives no error messages on the self test.

I am not much of an expert when it comes to printing in GNU/Linux, but I do seem to recall Gimp not printing anything on my Ubuntu 7.10 system as well, at least not until I added my printer make and model in Gimp. Perhaps you have already done that, but you do not mention it in your question, so hopefully this is something you can try to solve your problem. I hope that helps.
