GUI (preferably GTK) based open source Computer Algebra System

Are there any Computer Algebra Systems in the Ubuntu repositories that are GUI (and preferably GTK+) based and open source, as well as capable of graphing (and in 3D)? That being: A complete FOSS competitor to Microsoft Student.

Greetingz!

Although I've never used Microsoft Student, it sounds like SAGE 4.5.2 might be what you're looking for.
You may want to check the "Education & Science" section of osalt.com for other applications.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I figured Sage was GUI, as it is such a massive dependency ball that installing it on Ubuntu will pull 200 other programs and libraries with it.

However, that aside, Microsoft Student is actually Encarta Kids, plus a computer algebra system on top of it.

Edit: And Sage is no longer in the Maverick repositories:

Code:

kenny@kenny-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install sagemath
[sudo] password for kenny:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package sagemath is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'sagemath' has no installation candidate

Code:

kenny@kenny-laptop:~$ echo $BUMP
This thread will now be bumped, as it is way behind the other threads
