GUI freezes but mouse still moves
 

Ive got a problem,. running Suse Linux, or Fedora Core 2, when I go to install, the installer locks, but the mouse still moves,, I can get through it in fedora by going into text install, but the same thing happens when I log in after installation, within a second of the desktop loading. it only happens with those two distros, mandrake, linspire, etc.. seem to not be affected (but I do not want to use those distros).. my computer info ..
athlon xp 1800, kt133 VIA chipset, Nvidia fx5200 w/128mb ram (tried both NV and Nvidia drivers btw, and made sure Xorg.conf was updated) 1gb ram memtest86 tested, SB live sndcard, VIA rhine II networking.. dont know what could be causing this, but seems to be a common problem noted on the nvidia forums site, tho nobody seems to have an answer that works. Any suggestions??

p.s. all X and system logs stop before this happens, or just dont seem to notice a problem so I have no error to go by.

i cant really help you, except tell you that i have the same problem. im running a brand new slackware 10 install with kde 3.2.3. my system specs are athlon xp 2800, asus nf7-s v2 mobo, inno3d tnt2 mx-400 video card, 512 mb ram. :newbie:
