Can you get a ready compiled version anywhere as i have never used linux command lines before and don't want to mess up anything trying to compile it myself.

It's quite simple.
You unpack the tar.gz
open a console type:
you@yourmachine$su root
you@yourmachine$********* (password for root)
you@yourmachine$cd /path/to/your/unpacked/targz
you@yourmachine$chmod 762 ./configure
you@yourmachine$./configure
you@yourmachine$make
you@yourmachine$make install
you@yourmachine$exit
That's it...

hi Danno13
go for "gnosamba". search it at rpm.pbone.net or rpm.find.net, i am sure you can find gnosamba for your distro.
and what's more, you can even try LinNeighborhood (if you haven't tried it yet). its a samba browser from where you can mount samba drives residing in windows machines.

Or, if you want to use smb4k, there is a package of the compiled version.
