Gui for archivers

I am looking for a graphical interface to the continuosly growing number of archiving tools.

In the past i have suggested users to use guitar, but it's quite buggy, it's based on gtk 1.2 and will no more be included in debian starting from etch.

I'm searching specially for a light, fast and stable one, that doesn't need kde or gnome or uncommon libraries.

It should support at least tar ( gz, bz2 ), zip, rar, arj and lha ( and maybe 7z ).

Thank you in advance.

TkZip will handle those archive types, and several more. Takes a bit of study to figure out how to use it (documentation could use some work), but it's well worth the effort.

I was looking for same thing.
Fileroller needs Gnome libraries, TkZip seems to be shareware now. What is Ark ... ?

Ark is a KDE app so it doesn't fit your criteria.

xarchive
xarchiver

They are both GTK apps, don't depend on GNOME (just GTK2) and are simple GUI frontends for the CLI tools. If you are after 1 CLI program that is a frontend for the others then you might want to look at atool

HI i'll borrow this thread a little.
I have installed Xarchiver but I am unable to open .rar files. It say's "Failed to open childprocess rar".
But I have unrar installed and it works with Ark, but in Ark i can't extract passworded files.
Anyone who knows what to do. I installed the latest version from source.

EDIT: Nevermind, I had to install "rar" not just "unrar"

In the next release, 0.4.1, Xarchiver will use unrar if available but obviously it will not allow you to create rar archives since the free edition of rar, unrar, doesn't allow it.
