Gtkpod

Hi I just recently got a used IPod from ebay. It is loaded with song that I want to erase. This is my dmesg
Code:
usb-storage: device found at 5
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
Vendor: Apple Model: iPod Rev: 1.62
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00
SCSI device sda: 7999488 512-byte hdwr sectors (4096 MB)
sda: assuming Write Enabled
sda: assuming drive cache: write through

 /dev/scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0: p1 p2
Attached scsi removable disk sda at scsi3, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Attached scsi generic sg0 at scsi3, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 0
usb-storage: device scan complete
But when I start gtkpod a error message comes up.
Quote:
Could not open "iTunesDB.ext" for reading extended info.
Extended info will not be used.
And when I try to sync the files I get the error
Quote:
Could not open file "/mnt/ipod/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB" for writing.
Can anyone tell me what that means?

GTKPod saves some extra data on the ipod(can't remember what it was, but..). So if you start gtkpod on an ipod never modified by gtkpod, you will get this message.

There are two reasons I can think of.
Is the ipod mounted read/write, whit the right permissions? do a 'mount' on the console to see how it is mounted. Mine is mounted as:
Code:
/dev/sdc2 on /mnt/ipod type vfat (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,user=bas)
The other reason might be file-corruption. I've had this happening once before. To see if this happens, do a 'dmesg' on the console, and check for filesystem panics. If an error is found on the disk, the disk will be remounted read-only, to not make things worse.
If this is happenings, you should check the disk for errors

Code:
/dev/sda2 on /mnt/ipod type vfat (rw)
That is what I have for mount, and this is what I have in /etc/fstab
Code:
/dev/sda2 /mnt/ipod vfat rw,user,noauto 0 0

That should be OK..
You could try to make a new file on the ipod (do something like 'touch /mnt/ipod/test' on the console, or just drag a file onto it whit your filemanager.

If that succeeds, the ipod is mounted correctly. In that case i would try to completely reformat the ipod, to make sure the formatting and filestucture is good.
