Question Gtk2 theme in FC4/Fluxbox. How to change that using Gdm

Hi,

I'm kinda new to linux, been running fc4 for 1 week now and i installed fluxbox yesterday. I noticed that the theme don't applie to every part of the windows as well as to the systray area. I found out that the gtk2 theme control those... which i tried changing with the gnome-theme-manager tool. It work that way but i have to change it manually for each xsession and it's tedious. I also found out that you can autoload your icon.theme with the .xdefaults file in ~/ Now i'm not totally sure if it's gdm that call gtk2 or if it the opposite. ps -A don't give me a clue about that More info on the boot process would also be welcome(links links!)

So here are my questions :

- Can i put a default gui(gtk2) theme in the ~/.defaults file ?
- If the gnome-theme-manager can change the gtk themes in fluxbox(although it's buggy but still work), where does it apply the settings ? How do i manually change the gtk2 themes ?
Where can i get information on how to play with the graphic part of my system by editing files ? x.org -} gtk2 -} fluxbox ?

Am i sane to want to configure those things manually ? lol

tkx for any input,

eps

You can't change gtk themes from GDM. You can install a package called gtk-theme-switch or gtk-chtheme which will change your global gtk theme.

Hi reddazz,

Tkx for the reply although i could not get it working like i wanted. gtk-theme-switch changed some part of the gtk themes, maybe it's only good for gtk1 and not gtk2 ?

Just came back from work and since I saw it being changed when i called gnome-theme-manager, i though about monitoring the processes...
the pid that kept running after, and that keep the theme loaded i guess was started by this command line :

/usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon &

and by changing the theme and config into
/usr/bin/gconf-editor
... i get the best of both worlds nice gtk2 display and good speed/minimalism from fluxbox.
Now if this could be easier...

Btw some of my questions aren't answered yet, anyone ?

CONCLUSION : IT WORKS

You can get gtk-theme-switch for both gtk1 and gtk2, I think they are two different versions but I could be wrong.
