gtk theme installation...
 
ok, i'm kind of a newbie to GNOME, i've been using KDE and i thought GNOME 2.2.2 looked really nice so i thought i would give it a try. the problem i'm having is i don't know how to install themes. i searched for it on here and i didn't find anything that really helped me, so i thought i would ask, how do you install a gtk theme?

Installing GTK 1.2 themes is just a case of clicking the "Install new theme..." button in the Theme Selector page of the Gnome Control Centre and selecting the theme file you downloaded. If this fails to make the theme appear in the list of Available themes, try using the terminal to change directory to ~/.themes and run tar to unpack your theme there. GTK2 themes can be installed using the "Theme" program available from the menu, (Applications -> Desktop Preferences -> Theme). Downloaded themes can be dragged and dropped into the main program window, and then selected in the list.

oh and for the record, if you are running gtk2 and download a gtk1.2 theme and it don't work and your sitting there wondering what is going on, well the answer is you can't do it :D

make sure of the version of gtk that the theme was built for, to save you stress in the end

I'm use GTK1.2, I downloaded some themes for this version (freshmeant.net) , and tried to install them based on DrOzz' instructions but neither worked. I understand that the two versions are not compatible, right?

Can you please help?
