Okay, I think we are getting somewhere. Both configure script and compilation seemed to work fine.

./configure --prefix=/opt/firefox3/gtk2-10

make install

Now, you have to understand I am going through the motions without much grasp of what's really happening. Is that solution supposed to install gtk and firefox3 all in one go? If so, I don't see firefox in my menu list and when I call the firefox from the command line I just get iceweasel.

Alternatively, is what I am meant to do now is run the firefox installation script?

I went ahead and tried this solution but when I call ff3 from command line I get command not recognized: I was not sure what type of file ff3 aught to be. Normally i am expecting a time of extension. However, it is within my /opt/firefox3 folder and ff3 does have an SH label. So I don't understand why it aint running.

Ok, just create a new file called ff3 within /opt/firefox3 .
Paste the following content:

—snip—
#!/bin/sh
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=\”/opt/gtk210/lib\”
/opt/firefox3/firefox -Profile $HOME/.mozilla3 -no-remote $*
—snip—
Make it executable:

chmod +x ff3

Create your homedir

mkdir ~/.mozilla3

I did't understand if i was meant to create .mozilla3 in my user's home directory as in /home/siawash or the root ~/.mozilla3#

currently it's in the root. ff3 script wont run from either directory even when logged in as root.
