GRUB "vga=" option and OpenGL performance
Okay, I've got a Dell Inspiron 5100 with an ATi Mobility Radeon 7500 32MB running Ubuntu 5.04. Recently, I installed the splashy package which adds boot-up and shutdown art to Ubuntu. This requires adding the "vga=792" option in my Ubuntu entry in GRUB for it work.
However, playing my games I found out that the "vga=" option is dragging down my OpenGL performance in Linux. Without the "vga=" option in GRUB, my glxgears score is about 935fps; with "vga=" in GRUB, it's >200fps. Does anyone know what's going on here? Is the vga option too taxing on my hardware? Or is there something I can do to bring back my performce while keeping "vga=" enabled?
