grub takes long time to load

I am using dual boot system with Ubuntu 8.10 and Windows XP SP3 on an Intel Core2 Duo processor...
When I start or reboot my system, Grub takes very much time to load. Around 45 secs after switching on my system. I think this is not the usual case, as I saw in some other similar system where grub loaded very much fast.

Please give me a solution
